The guide’s opening paragraphs…

‘You might not recognise my friend Sally on the left there, but you just might identify with how she’s feeling. Poor Sally, why all the distress? She was only asked to organise a dinner for the board of directors where she works and their top ten clients. Quite a small affair but never the less she wasn’t comfortable with the responsibility of the project. It’s not that she wasn’t capable of undertaking such a task, she just hadn’t done it before. As she’s a conscientious person she just wanted to do a good job and not let anyone down.

As I’m a professional speaker and entertainer she turned to me for help. It wasn’t long after speaking to Sally I realised many people who are asked to organise events don’t realise the pitfalls and opportunities available. By opportunities, I mean that the event could have been better. This report includes all the advice I gave Sally and much more. By the way, Sally organised a brilliant event and for weeks afterwards the compliments were ringing in her ears and she received many letters of praise for her efforts. She felt great. Even better, it wasn’t long before she was given a rise in salary. ‘
